1001 Pots Excursion

On Saturday, August 17th, JETAA Ottawa is once more planning a day trip to Val-David to enjoy the 1001 Pots Festival! Check out wares from a variety of different potters as well as enjoy some Japanese sweets right there in the middle of the festival’s grounds!

“Welcoming nearly a hundred Québec artisans each year and offering educational and recreational activities, 1001 Pots is more than an exhibition, it’s the biggest ceramics event in Canada! After more than thirty years at the helm of 1001 Pots, in 2021, Kinya Ishikawa passed the torch to Sacha Ghadiri and Nouchine Dardachti.

Through the exhibition of utilitarian pieces and artistic works of all genres and formats, the presence of artists in residence, the varied demonstrations as well as the musical, poetic, and theatrical performances, the event is a summer must-see in an enchanting setting.”

From the 1001 Pots Website

It is located in Val-David, roughly 2 hours from Ottawa and 70 minutes from Montreal. Space is dependent on carpooling availability. Click here for registration and FAQ!

Summer Shodō Workshop

Follow along with us online on Monday, July 29th with sensei Johanne Léveillé as she demonstrates a variety of calligraphy techniques through kanji and hiragana. Suitable for beginners and experienced calligraphers alike.

Ms. Léveillé started practicing shodō in 1985 while living in Japan. She received a teaching certificate from Tōkyō Daitō Shogakuin (東京大東署学院). She is now based in Ottawa where she has participated in several exhibitions, including at the Embassy of Japan.

The event is free! All you will need to pay for is the cost of materials. We will provide you a list of what you need and where you can buy them either online or in the Ottawa area!
