Japanese Language Classes – Nov 2 to Dec 21 – [Sign-ups Open] – JET Alumni Only

Are you a JETAA member looking to continue your Japanese language learning journey? Come join your fellow JETAA members and study with us with an experienced, former CIR instructor.

The next period will be from November 2 to December 21, 2022.

The classes will be held online on Wednesdays. The format remains the same with a focus on Beginner to Intermediate skills from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Upper-Intermediate+ from 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT ALUMNI WHO DO NOT SUBSCRIBE USING THIS FORM WILL NOT BE CONTACTED, AND THEREFORE WILL BE UNABLE TO JOIN. Please register only if you intend to attend. If you are unsure about your willingness or ability to attend, please refrain from registering. You can contact us later if you change your mind.

JETAA Ottawa, in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan in Calgary, is proud to provide our first Canada-wide Japanese movie event. During the weekend of October 28th, we will make available “online movie passes” to JET Alumni and then the public at large. Towards promoting Canada-Japan relations, we encourage all JET Alumni to take some time and share this movie with your loved ones, friends and colleagues.

Book Discussion – “Drive My Car” – January 12 (Wed) @7pm EST

Let’s read and discuss the Haruki Murakami’s short story “Drive My Car,” found within the book “Men Without Women”!

(Non-JET Program Alumni, including friends, family, and Japan enthusiasts – even those located outside of Ottawa- are encouraged to join!!)

This short story was the basis of the 2021 film “Drive my Car,” directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, and selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival where it won three awards including Best Screenplay. It was also selected as the Japanese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
